Godalming is a small friendly town, ideal for people who would like to be part of a community, like the countryside and want easy access to cities.
We have an active Ukrainian community with over 50 Ukrainians already in the town. There are language lessons and other activities for our guests.
Homes are mostly 2 storey houses with gardens. Most will have more than 1 toilet and all will have electricity and fresh water.
The villages around Godalming are picturesque. The homes in villages are often attractive with larger gardens.
Godalming is located in the south of England in the county of Surrey. It is halfway between London and the south coast.
It has exceptionally good transport links, with train stations running directly to London. The train takes to London takes approx 50 minutes or alternatively 50 minutes to Portsmouth harbour (a city by the seaside with pebble beaches)
Local busses run around the area, often every 30 minutes. More details here
The city of Guildford is nearby and can be accessed via bus, train or a long walk – it is 6 Kilometres up the road or along the river.
Godalming has 2 large supermarkets, a library, many post offices, Pets At Home, Homebase (for DIY needs), a leisure centre (offering 3 months free membership to Ukrainians), many gyms and Argos (electronics and general needs). It also has many banks, shops, restaurants and cafes on the High Street. This means that everything you need can be found within Godalming itself.
Godalming has a very strong community with continual social events such as music festivals, food festivals, a comedy club, sports clubs, history walks, town fetes and fairs, wellness workshops and opportunities to pick fruit and vegetables.
